Northfield is a city located in the state of Minnesota of United States. The city falls under two counties, namely Dakota and Rice counties. Though majority of the area of the city falls in Rice County, a small part of the city lies under the Dakota County. In a total area of 7 sq miles that the city is spread over, almost all of it is land with very little water bodies in the city. The town can be roughly considered to be centered around the Cannon River. Northfield can be said to have an estimated population of 25,000 people.

Businesses throughout the city have gone through major development. These expansions have affected a number of areas including the Village on the Cannon and Millstream Commons. Tourism information about the city can be gained from the Northfield Convention and Visitors Bureau. The city has approximately 35 public parks that cover a total area of 400 acres. Some of them even have picnic shelters for outdoor visitors. Education system in the city of Northfield is coordinated by the Northfield public school district.
